Case Study:
Good News Lutheran College

GNLC Day

It started at a YLAA conference in 2025. The students from Good News Lutheran College left inspired, and rather than letting that moment fade, they took the next step into LeaderUp to turn it into something real for their school.

The Student Leadership Council began with a problem they could see every day: year levels were separated, and students did not have many ways to connect across them. They set out to change it.

Working through their LeaderUp project, the SLC met every Tuesday to shape their idea. They decided on the activities, planned how to include younger students, and built a promo video that played at assembly so the whole school knew what was coming. Then they launched GNLC Week.

The week was designed to mix year levels on purpose. Students came together for a badminton tournament, a cross-year soccer match, volleyball, chalk drawings, mural painting, and karaoke, all built around the simple goal of getting people who had never spoken to meet and work as a team.

The change showed up fast. Students collaborated across activities, met new people, and felt more comfortable in their school environment. As the SLC put it, year levels that were once separated were finally brought together.

This is LeaderUp at its best: a conference that sparks an idea, then young people identifying what needs to change in their own community, building a response, and launching it for everyone.

Good News Lutheran College, you are creating change.
