Brooke McIntosh

Mental Health Advocate's 1600-Kilometer Charity Runner Inspires Resilience and Hope

Brooke McIntosh, a courageous advocate for mental health, embarked on an extraordinary 28-day, 1600-kilometer charity run through Western Australia, starting from Karratha in the Pilbara on August 20 and concluding in Perth on September 16. Along the challenging North West Coastal Highway route, Brooke faced physical and mental hurdles, determined to raise awareness and funds for mental health within the FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) industry and among the younger generation.

As a former FIFO worker, Brooke intimately understands the toll the industry takes on mental health, advocating for a transformative shift in societal attitudes. Her mission, fueled by personal experiences and the alarming statistics of lives lost to suicide, has already raised over $72,000 for mental health charities 20Talk and Blue Tree Project.

Beyond the impressive physical feat, Brooke shares her own struggles with mental health openly, emphasising the therapeutic role running has played during darker days. Her story becomes a beacon of hope, encouraging others to seek help and embrace positive coping mechanisms.

In addition to her charity run, Brooke reflects on a pivotal moment when her mental health hit rock bottom, turning it into a catalyst for positive change. Brooke McIntosh symbolises resilience, sparking crucial conversations around mental health, fostering understanding, and empowering individuals to prioritise their well-being.
