Grades 11 and 12 The Ready Incursion (Year 11s) Program

This program has the following objectives:

All workshops have the following key YLAA outcomes:

Students participate in an experiential, learner-centred workshop
Small and large group debriefs facilitate building group consensus surrounding which direction students would like the workshop to lead into
A welcoming space of emotional safety and understanding is created, facilitating an environment where students feel comfortable sharing with the group
Programs are delivered in with a sustainable approach in mind considering both impact and environment

The Ready Incursion is a full-day, whole-cohort experience designed for Year 11 students in the window before student leadership nominations open. Students explore where their influence already exists, practice real leadership scenarios, and leave with the clarity and confidence to put their hand up. The day closes with a direct CTA - coordinator in the room, nominations open.

Students identify where leadership already exists in their daily life, before any formal title or role
Students examine their personal values and understand how character shapes the way they lead
Students challenge and reframe the assumption that leadership belongs to a particular type of person
Students name and work through the social barriers that hold capable young people back from stepping forward
Students practise speaking up in structured, low-stakes scenarios that build real confidence
Students work through a design thinking challenge that surfaces their problem-solving and leadership instincts
Students develop the resilience and self-awareness to lead with integrity when things get hard
Students understand what student leadership at their school actually looks like in practice
Students leave with a clear, supported pathway to nominate themselves for a student leadership role

Additional Note: This program was designed and developed following consultation and recommendations provided by YLAA's Youth Advisory Board - As our organisation continues to evolve, we want to make sure that we continue to represent and empower the voices of youth in their own affairs, that’s why we have created our first Youth Advisory Board - not only to ensure that our students’ interests are at the core of every aspect of our organisation, but also to give the young people we serve the opportunity to develop themselves personally, whilst contributing to our mission of ensuring a sustainable future for all youth.
